Happy New Year!
I have decided to start 2017 with the Daniel Fast. (See Daniel chapters 1 and 10 .) Like Daniel, I am saying good-bye to meat, dairy, eggs, sweeteners, bread, processed food, deep-fried food, and solid fats for 21 days. But I can still have fruits, veggies, whole grains (including whole-grain unleavened bread), nuts, and legumes. I also get to drink lots of water.
Why am I doing this? One simple reason, I am in need of wisdom.
There are several things God has put in my heart and I would like to clearly hear his direction in these areas. He’s challenging me to step up my game. Jesus has asked me if I am serious about following Him and doing what He has put in my heart. This fast is my response to His question.
Seeking God through prayer and fasting over the next three weeks is step one. Next is sharing what I’ve heard with other Holy Spirit filled people whose discernment I trust. Then I’ll follow that with the obedience of carrying out what He has directed me to do.
Throughout the next few weeks I’ll be checking in and letting you know how this all goes. So far Day 1 has been good. No awful cravings. No migraine. Just Jesus encouraging me to keep my heart stayed on Him and to seek Him above my own good (because He is our greatest good, even when my belly informs me it’s dinner time).
